Magdaliz Roura is the co-founder, manager, guitarist, and lead singer of the Latin Ensemble “Magdaliz and Her Latin Ensemble Crisol”.

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from an early age, she showed a talent for music by singing, playing instruments by ear, and improvising. She has performed with many and varied musical ensembles, and choirs, in Puerto Rico and the USA.

After obtaining her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico she moved to Philadelphia in 1994 to continue her education in the Music Therapy field.

She has been living in Philadelphia since then and works as a musician, music therapist, Spanish teacher, dancer, licensed medical interpreter trainer, certified Spanish interpreter in the courts and hospitals. She has also volunteered for different entities that cater to the Latin community.

You can see her perform as a soloist, with her ensemble “Magdaliz and Her Latin Ensemble Crisol”, or as guest artist with other ensembles.

Crisol, Spanish for "melting pot," is a Latin ensemble founded in Philadelphia back in 1997. This group is dedicated to the interpretation of a variety of folk and traditional musical genres from all over Latin America and the Caribbean.

Mexican huapangos popularized by Cuco Sánchez and Lola Beltrán, boleros written by Silvia Rexach, Rafael Hernández and Los Panchos, and Cuban sones including those by Miguel Matamoros and Compay Segundo, constitute much of the group's repertoire.

Some other styles Crisol performs include Mariachi music (e.g. rancheras, huapangos, habaneras, corridos), Colombian cumbias, Puerto Rican danzas, salsa, Cuban sones, Dominican merengues, Puerto Rican plenas, Cha-Cha-Cha, vieja trova, nueva trova, and much more.
